U.S. SOCCER HAS CHANGED HOW PLAYER AGE IS DETERMINED STARTING THIS 2026/2027 SOCCER YEAR Players will NO longer be placed on teams by Calendar Year Age (Jan 1 - Dec 31). Beginning Fall 2026, players will be placed on teams based on School Year Age (August 1 - July 31). HOW AGE GROUPS NOW WORK: • Players are grouped onto teams by birth Year/Month corresponding to the school year age calendar (see the Age Matrix Table above). • Some players may have the option to stay in their current age group for another soccer year -OR- move up to the next age group. • Decisions to play on current team depend on the player’s birth Year/Month and the HEAD Coach’s decision to stay down or move up (for example the head coach may have a child (player) born between 8/1 -12/31 and decide to play in current age group another soccer year) SCENARIO A: Players Born Between 8/1 – 12/31, you have options: If the Coach decides to play in same age group another soccer year - • Your player may choose to stay with their coach/team. • Only players born 8/1–12/31 are eligible for this choice. • Players born 1/1–7/31 cannot stay at the same age next year if the Coach chooses to stay in the age group. If the team/coach moves to the next age group; Your child may move up with the team or choose to stay in same age group another soccer year with a different team. SCENARIO B: Players Born Between 1/1 – 7/31, you do NOT have options. • Your player must move up to the next age group this fall regardless of what your current team’s coach decides. • Staying at the same age next year is NOT an option. ALL players in the WSA Player Pool (NEW players to WSA and players that request to be removed from their "Core" Team) will be randomly placed on teams based on CLICK FOR FULL INSTRUCTIONS Player Registration Click here to register your child Coaching Registration Click here to register as a coach Referee Registration Click here to register as a referee IMPORTANT NOTES - Your player must have a Government issued birth certificate uploaded to their GotSport profile to complete Player Registration and be placed on a team. - Players must be 3 years old by 12/31/25 PRICING: U4 - $90 U5-U8 - $135 U9-U19 - $165

The Soccer Landscape With the goal of building the soccer community within Parker County, we want to make you aware of different opportunities for your young athlete. 01 Recreation Soccer Recreational soccer provides a healthy activity, emphasizing enjoyment and development over competition. It allows kids to have fun, make mistakes, and learn. Recreational soccer is for the player ages U4-19 who is primarily interested in fun, fitness and friendship. Recreational games are usually played in the community (and those nearby). Coaches are often a parent of a player on the team or other community member. Coaches are unpaid volunteers. It is quite typical of children at the recreational level to play multiple sports. As a result, recreational league teams rarely play in tournaments or have multiple practices during the week. Recreational players are guaranteed to play at least 50% of the game. Weatherford Soccer Association (WSA) is a recreational association. 02 Competitive Soccer Competitive soccer provides opportunities for the more committed player to advance their skills through higher competition. More than 10,000 competitive players are registered on 600 teams throughout North Texas. There are 2 different levels of competitive soccer based on age: Academy Soccer Select Soccer Most academy and select teams allow your child to participate in a practice (and possibly multiple practices) before committing to a team. This is a terrific opportunity to get a feel for what goes on and to meet players, parents, and coaches. If you do not get a warm fuzzy after interacting with the first team, try another one or stick with your current team. To join a competitive team, contact a local club. *Most of the information above comes from a 2014 article appearing in the Dallas Morning News, titled Making sense of recreational soccer, academy soccer and select soccer in Frisco. 03 Academy Soccer (player age U7-10) Academy Soccer Young boys and girls, typically ranging in age from U7-10, can opt to play academy soccer, in addition to recreational soccer. Academy games are typically played on Sundays so that the player can keep playing on his or her recreational team (where games are most often on Saturdays). Whenever there is a conflict between an overlapping academy and recreational game, priority should be given to the recreational game. The Academy level will begin to increase the commitment to practice time and players usually play year round: outdoor in the fall and spring and indoor in the summer or winter (or both). Academy soccer is more expensive than recreational soccer. Fees may include league fees, insurance, coaches’ stipends, uniform kit. Tournament fees may or may not be included. In competitive soccer, unlike recreational soccer, playing time is not guaranteed. 04 Select Soccer (player ages U11-19) Select Soccer Select soccer is for the competitive player ages U11-19. A Select player may not play on a recreational team. Select teams practice about three hours or more during the week with optional, and sometimes required, skills development sessions. Players will not always make the team they are practicing and/or trying out with. However, players are generally able to join another team looking to fill out its roster, though that may be with an entirely different team and organization. The cost is often higher than academy soccer, ranging from several hundred to a few thousand dollars a year. When a player joins a team, parents sign one-year contracts that obligate financial contributions to the team and the organization. Like Academy soccer, Select soccer teams play in tournaments and the entry fees might or might not be included in your dues. Be prepared to play four or five tournaments a year. Coaches commit a lot of time and energy to the team and the league and usually have extensive backgrounds in soccer and often have a coaching license. 05 Indoor Soccer Indoor Soccer Indoor soccer is played in a walled indoor arena. The game is delimited by walls instead of lines and there are no throw-ins. The ball can be played off the wall. Unlike futsal, which is played on wooden a surface, indoor soccer is typically played on synthetic turf. Indoor league seasons are often played in between outdoor soccer seasons (i.e., Summer, Winter). Game On (sports facility on West side of Ft. Worth) offers indoor soccer leagues. 06 Futsal Futsal Futsal is an exciting, fast-paced small sided soccer game that is played across the world and is officially recognized by FIFA. It is a 5 v 5 small-sided game played on a hard surfaced, basketball-sized court with a smaller, low bounce ball. Futsal is played with touchline boundaries and without walls. Futsal places a large emphasis on technical skill in high pressure situations which can be translated into the outdoor game. The sport is a great skill developer as it demands quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin-point passing. Futsal is played in over 100 countries with 12 million players. Great soccer superstars such as Pele, Zico, Ronaldo, Messi, Kaka and Katia grew up playing the game and credit futsal with developing their skills. Game On (sports facility on west side of Ft. Worth) offers futsal leagues. * Information above from United States Youth Futsal. 07 More information North Texas Soccer North Texas Soccer Clubs Game On Sports facility offering Indoor Soccer and Futsal leagues References Hirsh, Michael (2014). - FAQs | Weatherford Soccer
Frequently Asked Questions Registration Questions Coaching Questions Game Day Questions Soccer Landscape Will my child be placed on the same Team? If your child is a returning player, as long as the coach and team are returning and you have not requested that your child be assigned to a new team and you have registered on time. Please keep in mind that it's WSA policy to place additional players on teams with the shortest roster and without going over state-regulated roster size. I do NOT want my child to have the same coach as last year. What can I do? You can request to have your child "Request off core" on the player registration form when signing up for the upcoming season. Your child will then be removed from their previous team and be placed back in the player pool for random assignment to a new team. NTSSA rules require that children be assigned to teams in a fair manner. I liked my child's coach from last season, but do NOT want him/her to play with the same kids. What can I do? You cannot request the same coach but with different players. You do have the option to request your child not play on the same team and be placed back in the Player Pool for random assignment. I would like my child to play on a friend's team? In the U4 - U-8 divisions, the NTSSA "Buddy Request" may be used. Only a new player (or WSA player that has not played in the past 2 seasons) may request to be placed on a friend's team (same birth year). This request will be honored, if there is room on the team's roster. If there is not room on the team's roster, both players may request to be placed on a team that has two open roster positions. The buddy requested will have to agree to be taken "off core." I want my child to play in a higher age bracket. Is this possible? The decision to have your child "play-up" is something that requires careful consideration. Such a request is generally made when a player demonstrates a skill level above his/her age of play and when there is a team available. Such a request should be made to the appropriate league representative or on your child's registration form. The request requires approval from the Team Formation Committee. Your child may only play up one age bracket. I would like my child to play for a specific coach? A player may NOT request to play on a specific team. A coach may NOT request that you play for their team. This is a serious violation of the recruiting rules.

Being a board member means devoting some of your very limited free time to make an impact on young children who may or may not have played soccer before. We are all here to help grow this love of soccer in every single child and build an organization that each and everyone of us can be proud of. Some of the duties a board member can be found doing is painting lines on the soccer fields, emptying trash cans, cleaning/restocking the restrooms, providing transportation to a field for a spectator, conducting registration, making connections with small businesses, and just simply being present at the fields on game days. Cartwright Park is owned by the city and they do the mowing once a week, but the association is responsible for the everyday upkeep of the fields and the buildings. The city requires that we have a board member present during games in the event an issue arises.
